FootEx: How Scoring Works

Understand how scoring works for each of the FootEx Daily Games, as well as the Arcade Draft Games.

How Scoring Works in FootEx: A Full Breakdown

Ever wondered exactly how your score is calculated, or why your mate somehow finished above you despite getting the same answers right? Here's a complete breakdown of the FootEx scoring system.

The Basics

At its core, FootEx scoring rewards two things: getting answers right, and doing it well relative to the challenge.

On FootEx Trivia, it's key to perform well on the harder questions.

On FootEx Tenable, it's about naming as many as you can without losing your lives.

On FootEx Pointless, niche knowledge will bring success.

On FootEx Transfers, it's a test of your memory. Tap into the nostalgia.

Scoring in the Daily Games

Each of the four daily games works a little differently under the hood, so here's exactly how your score gets built in each one.

Trivia rewards difficulty. Every question is weighted, so a correct answer on a hard question is worth more than a correct answer on an easy one. Your raw total is normalised before that difficulty multiplier gets applied, which keeps scores comparable across days even as question sets change. Worth knowing: Poll and Culture questions are just for fun and don't affect your score at all.

Tenable is built around your ten answers. Each one you land earns you 10 points, up to a maximum of 100 for a clean sweep — then your difficulty setting (easy, medium or hard) multiplies that final total.

Pointless flips the usual logic on its head. Every wrong answer scores you 100 points, so the goal is to keep your combined total across all three answers as low as possible. Your Ball IQ score is then calculated as 100 minus your total divided by 3 — meaning a perfect round (three answers scoring zero) hands you a Ball IQ of 100.

Transfers is all about speed of recognition. Nail the player on the very first club and you bank the full 100 points. Every additional club you need chips away at that score on a straight line down, though even a last-gasp correct guess on the final club earns a small consolation score rather than nothing. Run out of clubs without getting it? That's a 0.

And across every daily game, remember the easy/medium/hard setting is doing real work in the background — dial it down for a safety net at a lower score ceiling, or back yourself on hard mode for the bigger multiplier.

Scoring in the Arcade

Arcade works differently to the daily games, and deliberately so - there's no 24-hour reset, so you can dip in whenever you like.

In Draft Mode, you build your squad from iconic historical lineups before taking them into a competition - currently PL 38-0 and WC 38-0 are both live, with more on the way.

Rather than chasing a points total per question, the aim is to go the distance: build a team capable of winning the competition, collect trophies for your cabinet along the way, and see how close you can get to an invincible run. It's less "beat today's score" and more "how far can this squad take me" — a slower-burn, replayable test of your squad-building instincts alongside your football knowledge.

How Your Daily Score Affects Your League Ranking

Your day-to-day points don't just disappear once you close the app — they roll up into your league standing, which is what everyone's actually watching.

Every point you earn across Trivia, Tenable, Pointless and Transfers gets added to your total within any league you're part of, turning four quick daily quizzes into an ongoing competition against your mates. FootEx leaderboards track this at three levels: daily, weekly, and across a full season — and with 8 seasons running per year, the format is built to reward turning up consistently rather than one lucky day at the top.

Why Understanding Scoring Matters

Knowing exactly how points are awarded means you can actually strategise - whether that's playing at the right time, prioritising certain question types, or building a smarter Draft Mode squad.

Quick Reference

Mode What Earns Points Any Bonuses
Daily Game Correct answers across Trivia, Tenable, Pointless and Transfers — each with its own scoring logic (difficulty-weighted, answers-found, niche-answer, or guess-speed based) Easy/medium/hard difficulty multiplier applied to your final score
Draft Mode Building a squad capable of running a full competition (PL 38-0, WC 38-0) without losing Trophies collected along the way; an invincible run is the ultimate reward
Arcade Mode Play anytime, no daily reset — progress is about how far your squad can go rather than a single score Ongoing trophy cabinet as you replay and improve your run

Once you understand how the numbers work, the whole game gets a lot more interesting — and a lot more competitive.
