A Beginner's Guide to FootEx: Everything You Need to Know

New to FootEx? Here's a complete rundown of what the app is, how it works, and how to get the most out of it from day one.

What Is FootEx?

FootEx is a daily football trivia app built for people who love the game and want to prove it. Every day brings a new challenge, and you can compete not just for a personal high score but against your friends in dedicated leagues.

The Core Game Modes

FootEx isn't just one quiz - there are several many to play:

The Daily Games A new football trivia challenge every single day. Quick to play, different every time, and the foundation of your ongoing score.

There are currently 4 daily games which you can play:

1. FootEx Trivia: A simple series of trivia questions. Starting easy and getting progressively harder with each question. Harder questions are worth more points.
2. FootEx Tenaball: Name a list of ten answers. For example: "The last 10 different Ballon D'or Winners". You have three lives to name as many as you can.
3. FootEx Pointless: On January 16th 2026, we asked 100 football fans to name who they thought of for a particular category. More niche answers = more Ball IQ points for you.
4. FootEx Transfers: Guess the player based on their club-by-club career stats, in as few guesses as possible.

Easy, Medium, and Hard Each of our games has an easy, medium and hard mode. Either give yourself some help for a decreased score multiplier, or back yourself to boost points earned.

Arcade and Draft Games We have draft-and-play simulation games where you can draft your team based on iconic historical lineups, collect trophies for your cabinet, and aim to become invincible.

Currently we have PL 38-0 and WC 16-0 available, with more competitions coming soon.

How Scoring Works

Trivia

Each trivia question is weighted by difficulty — the harder the question, the more points a correct answer is worth.

Poll and Culture questions don't affect your score.

Your points total is normalised before the difficulty multiplier is applied.

Pointless

Each wrong answer scores 100 points. The lower your combined score across all 3 answers, the higher your Ball IQ.

Ball IQ score = 100 − (total ÷ 3)

A perfect pointless round (3 × 0) gives a Ball IQ score of 100.

Tenable

Find as many of the 10 answers as you can. Each answer you find earns 10 points, for a maximum of 100. Your final score has a difficulty multiplier applied.

Career Path

Your score is based on how quickly you identified the player. Get it on the first club and you score 100. Each additional club you need reduces your score linearly. Getting it on the last club scores a small consolation bonus. Exhaust all clubs without getting it right and you score 0.

Ball IQ score = round(100 × (1 − guess ÷ clubs)).

(100 on the first guess, round(50 ÷ clubs) on the last).
